Let me set the scene:

You’re in your car, steering wheel gripped tight, rehearsing your lines.

Yes, I’m at the same job. No, we broke up. I don’t know when grand-kids are coming.

Sound familiar?

For many, holiday get-togethers come with expectations, nerves, and a lot of mental preparation. Here’s how to create calm before entering the storm this holiday season.

Family get-togethers are… complicated

Families are complicated. There are so many layers of deep-seated emotion that bubbles to the surface at the most inconvenient times.

A subtle glance from a parent can make you feel like an awkward teenager again, in an instant. And the prodding questions — oh the prodding questions.

So, are you still at the same job? Do you like it? When are you going to have kids?

Anticipating uncomfortable situations, you might find yourself conducting a full-on rehearsal — sat outside in your car, parked just around the corner.
